The Route: From Portland’s Wine Country to Cannon Beach
For this itinerary, we’re not taking the straight shot from Portland to Cannon Beach. Instead, you’ll head southwest from Portland into wine country, travel north through the valley, and cross the Coast Range before heading into Cannon Beach. It’s a beautiful drive, so buckle in and get ready!
Here’s the general route:
- Portland to Chehalem and Stoller: Depending on your starting point, take I-5 South to OR-99W South toward Sherwood, Newberg, and Dundee. Follow local roads to Chehalem’s estate tasting room on Bell Road, then continue toward Stoller Family Estate near Dayton.
- Wine country to US-26: From Stoller, use local connecting roads to reach OR-47 North through Carlton, Yamhill, and the Forest Grove area. Continue toward the US-26 connection near Banks and Manning.
- Across the Coast Range to Nehalem: Follow US-26 West, then turn onto OR-53 South toward Nehalem Bay Winery.
- Nehalem to Manzanita and Cannon Beach: Continue to US-101, head north, and stop in Manzanita before following the coastal highway to Cannon Beach.
First Stop: Chehalem Winery in Sherwood

This scenic wine loop from Portland to Cannon Beach starts at Chehalem Winery. With views of the rolling vineyards and a delicious tasting room menu to accompany the wine, it’s an excellent first stop. Order a flight, share an appetizer, then head to the porch or lawn for a glass or bottle of your favorite. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Hood in the distance, making it one of the most beautiful stops along our journey.
We recommend what the staff lovingly calls a “Porch Pounder,” the Chehalem Pinot Noir Rosé. It’s clean, slightly herbal and fruity, with a crisp finish, perfect for a spring afternoon or a fall night by the fire. It also pairs perfectly with the Rillions: Heritage pork belly with chili and garlic, finished in Chehalem Pinot Noir.
The estate tasting room currently opens daily from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Reservations are available, and walk-ins are welcome. They feature a variety of experiences from the guided 5-wine Tasting Room Experience to walks through the vineyard, giving you plenty of options for how to enjoy your time.
Next Up: Stoller Family Estate
Stoller Family Estate owns Chehalem Winery, so if you enjoyed that first stop, you’re guaranteed to appreciate this one, too. The family established the estate in 1943, and they’ve been producing exceptional vintages ever since.
At their Heritage Tasting Room, the Classic Tasting offers a choice of flights, including estate wines and more limited Reserve selections. They also offer a Legacy Tasting, Lawn Experience, a 5-Course Tasting Menu + Wine Pairing, or a Reserve Winery Tour and Tasting. Each experience gives you ample pours of their award-winning wines, so you really can’t go wrong.
Stoller welcomes visitors daily from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with Classic Tastings running from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. If you’re full from Chehalem, consider just ordering a glass of their Stoller Reserve Chardonnay and enjoying a seat on the lawn on a sunny afternoon. Or, if you skipped the food menu at the first stop, now is the perfect opportunity to dig into their rotating menu. The seasonal bruschetta is a must!
Optional Wine-Country Stops Along the Way
If you don’t visit both of the first two stops, or if you’re open to extending the travel time, here are a few more wineries you’ll pass along the way during your wine-drive from Portland to Cannon Beach.
Lachini Vineyards: A Tuscan-Inspired Villa in Newberg

Lachini Vineyards fits best into the Newberg portion of your drive, before continuing toward Stoller.
Their estate Villa Tasting House opened in late 2024 and offers indoor seating, outdoor terraces, and private cellar-tasting settings. The Tuscan-inspired building overlooks the vines, and an open kitchen invites you into the creation of wine-pairing options.
You’ll want to plan ahead for this one. Lachini requests reservations, although walk-ins may be allowed if there’s enough space. Tastings are adult-only, 90-minute experiences, and a minimum purchase of $50 per person is required.
- Recommended Glass: Estate Pinot Noir
Soter Vineyards: A Wine and Food Experience at Mineral Springs Ranch
Near Carlton, Soter Vineyards offers tastings at Mineral Springs Ranch, its biodynamic farm and flagship vineyard.
Book the Estates Experience for a guided introduction to their wines and their regenerative farming practices, featuring wines from their three estate vineyards. For a visit centered on food as well as wine, consider the Provisions Experience. Its seasonal pairings feature offerings from the ranch’s produce, with additional sourcing from regional farms and the coast. Pairings change weekly, so no two visits are ever quite the same.
Each experience is designed to give visitors an intimate and meaningful visit. Because of this, they do not accept walk-ins.
Coastal Wineries Near Cannon Beach
Nehalem Bay Winery
Once you’ve finished your valley stops, head west on US-26 toward the Coast Range and go south onto OR-53 toward Nehalem Bay Winery.
Established in 1974, this family-owned winery offers a distinct tasting experience from that of the inland vineyard estates. Alongside traditional red and white varietals made with Willamette Valley fruit, you’ll find fruit wines that invite you to try something outside your typical options.
If your group has spent the morning comparing Pinot Noirs, this is a fun opportunity to mix it up. Ask what’s available, choose a flight, and see whether an unexpected favorite earns a spot in your take-home collection.
The winery is located at 34965 Highway 53 and currently opens daily from 10 AM to 5 PM. The tasting fee is $10 for five pours, waived with a bottle purchase, so it’s quite the steal, too.
The Winery at Manzanita

From Nehalem Bay Winery, continue to US-101 and travel north toward Manzanita. Turn onto Laneda Avenue for The Winery at Manzanita, a coastal stop with courtyard fire pits and a second-floor ocean-view deck.
The tasting options include all-white, all-red, a sparkling flight, and a few others. Light bites, beer, cider, and zero-proof choices make it easy for everyone in your group to find something they’ll love. We recommend getting a few flights and sharing so you can sample the most! Pair the flights with the popcorn, Valencia almonds, olives, or the artichoke bites and enjoy.
For travelers looking for wineries near Cannon Beach, Oregon, this is also a great option after you’ve settled into your vacation rental. Couple your visit with time exploring Manzanita, or incorporate it into another day trip when you follow our Cannon Beach to Astoria guide!
Service is first come, first served, and some menu items can sell out as the day goes on. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor courtyard and on the upstairs deck, so this is also a great addition if you’re traveling with your four-legged furry friend.
Finish in Cannon Beach at The Wine Shack

Our last stop brings you to the heart of downtown Cannon Beach at The Wine Shack on North Hemlock Street.
If your search for Cannon Beach wineries has you hoping for a local tasting spot, put this shop on your list. The Wine Shack pours its own Puffin wines alongside a selection of other local brands, giving you another way to explore Oregon’s wine regions after reaching the beach.
Drop in for a flight or pick up something to accompany dinner at your Beachcomber vacation rental. It’s the perfect stop as you’re out exploring the downtown shops.
No reservations are needed. The Wine Shack is open daily from noon – 6 PM in summer and noon – 5 PM in fall and winter.
